We are a First Nations owned and operated family business created to share the scent and spirit of our home in the West Kimberley.
What started in a moment of homesickness - the familiar aroma of Dad's handmade incense transporting me back to to the red dirt - became a desire to bring the essence of Broome to people everywhere.
Our home is a place of contrasts: rich rugged pindan and soft light sand, warm winds and quiet bushland. Those textures, colours and materials inspire everything we make.
We started by crafting incense from the woods our family has used for generations. As we grow, we’re creating more products that speak to memory, scent and place.

A Brief History
THE BEGINNING
Gunggara had always been part of Dad’s life.
Growing up in Broome, he learnt about it from his father and mother. With its beautiful orange grain, its sweet native berries and its practical use for keeping insects away. Also honouring its deeper connection to Culture and Country, with the Old People using its smoke in ceremony.
For Dad, Gunggara was more than a beautiful native timber. Its scent carried memories of home, family and Country.
THE IDEA
Years later, while touring with his band, Dad would often find himself thinking about home. Their music carried the sound of Broome with them, but he wondered if there was another way for audiences to experience the place behind the music.
He began thinking about scent and its ability to transport us. What if the woods and plants he knew from home could burn while the band played filling the room with the aromas of Country alongside the music?
He carried that idea with him for years.
THE BREAKTHROUGH
Years later, I moved to Sydney for work in 2021 and found myself deeply missing home.
Then Dad came to visit. Alongside some of his woodworking, he brought a small incense cone he had made from Gunggara. He lit it and almost instantly I was transported back to Broome.
Suddenly, the idea he had carried for all those years became real.
If scent could make me feel connected to home from thousands of kilometres away, perhaps we could capture that feeling for others too.
That moment became JIMAWOOD.
